Yes! I've been wanting to do this for a couple years. The concrete went in this week and I've purchased supplies to get started on electrical stuff. This will delay the Evonne project a bit, but it'll be time well-spent.
Awesome news with the shop addition. Should help alot. A lift would be awesome.
Saw a few of you other videos. I am 2010 Mercedes R350 bluetec owner. It just had a recall and they replaced the entire EGR system. They updated the ECU and I asked about tuning. They said it was more encrypted and if tuning is not done properly the car does not run and you need to order a new ECU. Idk, but I did a video with two possible modifications that may prevent the intakes from getting carbon buildup.
Murray, I just watched your video and I'm with you 100%. My first Mercedes diesel was an R320 CDI from 2007. No DEF, but otherwise very very similar. When I bought mine it needed the oil cooler seals replaced, so while I was in there I got rid of the swirl vanes, and I actually cut the tube that brings the EGR gasses back into the intake, blocking it off -- just like you mentioned. I put a Malone (now Tunezilla) tune on it so that it wouldn't complain about no swirl vanes, no EGR, and no DPF either. I recently sold it, but only because I wanted to fund my work on Evonne. What they are doing to these diesels is sheer madness, as it destroys the engine, decreases the fuel economy, and hurts the performance. Without the combination of longevity, efficiency, and torque...why have a diesel? Ultimately, governments are about destroying everything good in life.
By the way, there ARE people who know how to tune these. The Mercedes guys are just trying to scare you away from doing it. A simple tune can disable your EGR, getting you everything you are looking for. If you can't find somebody who will do a tune that disables things, I can put you in touch with somebody that will do it.
That will be a nice addition to the shop!!!

Maybe possible, maybe not.
